Unit 19 assignment 2
Project Proposal: a night in the dark
Background
[What is the brief asking you to make?]
The brief given is asking me to design a poster which
advertises a festival we are creating. The festival promotions (website,
posters etc) should attract my target audience of young emos or goths but also
people looking for new music. The audience age range is 16-24-year olds so the
poster should look modern and familiar to the target audience. For example, I
can attract my target audience by using a dark colour pallet with recognisable
music artists such as panic at the disco and twenty-one pilots which are well
known bands.
Objectives
objective 1- I aim to make a poster to advertise a festival
celebrating emos and goths.
specific & measurable objective 2- to attract different
cultures and backgrounds to the emo and goth community.
specific & measurable objective 3- to make it clear that
this is not a Halloween festival.
Your Proposal
[Explain your idea and the detail that you feel make it a
success. Include supporting information and market research and market
knowledge to help explain your choices.]
The festival is unique in the sense there aren’t many like
it. The festival is goth and emo themed, but you don’t have to Identify as
either to enjoy it, for example you might just enjoy the music as it is rock,
emo and some alternative. The festival might hit the audience of the festival
of the dead. I think it will be successful because even though emo and goth
aren’t that popular (it is a niche audience), they are out there. The festival will be held at a park so could hold around 6,000-10,000 people. it welcomes people who dress as though they are emo or goth and people who are inner emo or goth- they listen to the same music but don't dress up so you can predict what they listen to. Some people are still discovering
themselves around this age so it could help them find their taste in music.
They will also be able to meet people like themselves. The festival will have
music, stalls which specialise in different things such as mini merch or
souvenirs and food and drink.
Tools for Promotion.
[How would you like to promote your event?]
A web page would help to promote the event as I could use
the link to put it in a social media page like twitter or Instagram. A social
media page would be useful to add to any queries the audience may have such as
parents asking about dietary foods. I could also try to get a celebrity like a
YouTuber to come. I can also use social media to put ads there like on Facebook
when you see an ad for wish for example between your friend’s posts. I can also create an event page to see how
many people are interested, can attend or can’t make the festival. if possible I could also make a spottily advert to reach out to people outside of Manchester who may want to attend.
Legal & Ethical.
[Can you think of any legal or ethical issues you may have
to consider?]
I will need to consider my image uses on the poster due to
copyright reasons. If I want to use an image, I will have to edit it through
photo shop to make it my own. Also, I need to be aware of how gory my graphics
are so I can have them in any public place without scaring off children.
Another thing I will need to consider is how accessible my
festival is. I’m thinking of locating it in a park but since I am thinking of
having the festival in autumn possibly at the end of September since it won’t
get too cold during the evening/early night. If I was to locate the festival in
a building, I would have to make sure the festival is in a place with lifts or
based on the ground floor. I personally feel like the festival would be better
set in a park as the title gives me that kind of vibe.
I might have to consider religion as some religions require
people to eat Halal. Certain religions also don’t allow them to drink alcohol
beverages so I would have to consider that.
If I can’t get the artists themselves to perform songs, I
would have to get permission for people to sing their songs at the festival.
